>Well I think Max is healing well but hell I'm not looking LOL He's been
>outside a few times yesterday with one Hooligan (PRIDE who wouldn't come
>when called, big surprise) and did well. He will still posture at the
>sliding glass door when Big Red, Tasha or Cojo go out and make like he
>a fight. Now here's one for ya, even when I'm not letting a dog out he
>stand at the door and bark and do circles around looking at the porch for
>something to guard????? Neurotic???? or flash back from being beat
>up??????? I have a not to bad price on a Thyroid test which I will get for
>him any other suggestions of what to look for???? Its his life we are
>talking about here, I certainly can't adopt him out and he's making things

Max today

>Well we almost got through the WHOLE day without an incident. Max mixed
>mingled with the others today. He growled and grumbled but kept his teeth
>to himself, well until this evening :(
>Cojo was outside and Max at some points will not come when I call him and
>just stands guard at the door to threaten usually Big Red, Cojo, Carl or
>Tasha. Sure enough I was calling and calling him and Cojo did not want to
>pass but finally I went out and called Max who ignored me. I was trying to
>make a get away for Cojo NOPE. Max leapt on him and attacked. Guess
>what??? The other Hooligans protected Cojo and they attacked Max to make
>him stop. Thank goodness it was over quickly but not quick enough for me.
>So there's Max, Mr. I'm not suppose to have tension on my stitches, getting
>an ass kicking. I noticed Pride leapt on his back and swung his front paws
>around Max's tummy and thats definitely how he could have gotten that
>laceration. Pride has that deformed paw with a WICKED nail slant that has
>scratched and gouged me before. Anyway the special elixir Gunvor

>threw my plate on the ground LOL WHOOOOOAAAA Yes I joined the ranks of the

>garbage pick up (one bag a week, no large pickup) and higher taxes and the
>fact our speed limit is 60 on a curvy hill and people are on our lawns, in

>Okay this is BAD :( Took Max in for his Thyroid test today and the vet was
>blunt with me. She told me it probably isn't the Thyroid and its just his

>with Max for a while and couldn't get it out of my head that I'm facing the
>ultimate end for Max. No I'm not ready to give in yet, I just know its not
>time. I still have Gunvor's remedy's to try (when the people ship me that

Yesterday sledding

On Tue, 25 Feb 2003 09:31:12 -0500, Marilyn Hubley
>Well I broke down yesterday and took one of my Huskies and my Hound for a
>run on the sled. Hound wasn't impressed. He was trying to back outta his
>collar from the moment I hooked him up. Half way down the street he got
>into it and we had a good run but unfortunately on the way back the Big
>Chihuahua in him came back out and he wanted to be CARRIED. So I dragged
>them back and put him in the house and hooked up Cojo with Tundra (had
>Tundra & sled bungee corded to a tree :). So I set off down the driveway
>and Cojo SITS, nope no siree bob howdy he's not going anywhere. I had to
>PHYSICALLY drag him down the driveway and eventually he got into it for a

Sledding Today

On Thu, 6 Mar 2003 15:13:31 -0500, Marilyn Hubley
>I had to go today after that last dump we had I was sure the snowmobilers
>would have been out and made trails. WRONG!!!!!!!! So Weaver, Pride & I
>wade through about knee to hip deep snow only to find we have no trails.
>Well of course the dogs weren't going back and were all hyper so off we
>went. I never rode the sled I just pushed, pulled, and hung on. After two
>field we headed for the road (by the way forgot my sunglasses and was
>squinting to beat the band). At least I got in some Gee/Haw/On By
>I like to think so anyway. At the road see some snowmobile tracks off we
>go!!!!!! Only to realize they run out not far down and onto the road :(
>Turn around drag dogs & sled home. Hey look we still have some snow on the
>side of the road what ya think Weaver????? Off we go not real fast as they
>were both tired from the snow that we went through that was deeper than
>them. Then they spot the Hydro guy hey whats he doing. Hell I don't know
>they are up and down the street today getting out of their trucks and
>looking at all the Hydro Poles with binoculars. I didn't ask glad to see
>Money is going to such important tasks. :) Of course once Weaver spotted
>the guy we were off and he had to be mugged of course. The man asked if
>they were friendly where upon Weaver jumped him. Kinda slimed him cause it
>was muddy & slushy on the side of the road. We chatted for a bit (there
>were 3 in the truck and they were grinning at me probably thinking I'm an
>idiot). Off we set again, at this point I'm trying to turn them around,
>every time I did they'd mess me up and go the wrong way :( Finally after
>the 3rd try we got it and made it home. I didn't even have to hold onto
>them when I let them off the gangline they ran straight for the door :)
>in all a good day but not a lot of fun for sledding :( Then it was off
>grocery shopping for me, and Deana I mailed something to Nicole will tell

Sledding RULES

>Ahhhhhh what a wonderful day for sledding :) Bright sunny, not a cloud in
>the sky. Got up early prepared the dogs loaded the truck, put each dog in
>Durango (carried a set of car keys & house keys in case they locked me
>out ). Finished loading up, stuck the keys in my waist band of my sweats,
>got my purse & camera and set out :) First stop Tim Hortons :) mandatory
>coffee but didn't drink it right away cause didn't want to have to hang my
>butt out in the cold to go pee :) Made it to trails borrowed a dog and
>hooked up 4. Any of you that know me should have laughed at that mistake.
>I got Weaver and Keda (borrowed) out front and they are ready to go, Tundra
>& Cojo in the back about to be dragged whether they want to or not. FLY
>OUTTA THE GATE!!!!!!!! Straight for railway tracks, heavily used tracks,
>gates. Start to brake and could well have gone over the sled handle dogs
>were going so fast. Luckily no train but we did see at least 3 or more.
>Dogs got tangled up, fine untangle, tangle again, fine untangle. Did I
>mention I have NO SNOW HOOK??? So have to hold onto the sled and work my
>way up the gang line to hold onto them all the while they are pulling like
>psycho's??? By this time I'm exhausted cause they are hauling me every
>where. Make it back to sled and they take off knocking me flying to the
>right, dragging me behind them, I DIDN'T LET GO!!!! Dragged my feet got
>back up and was to exhausted to turn them around and they had already
>started down the WRONG PATH. Did I mention a team went before me and was
>going to look for me and a team was going behind me to watch for me??? Did
>I mention NO ONE saw me fall and get dragged around the wrong corner????
>Fine lets go, what a BEAUTIFUL DAY it was for sledding the dogs were loving
>it, I was loving it, the cross country skiers were wise enough to move WELL
>OUTTA THE WAY :) Did I mention I've never gone on these trails before and
>had no way of knowing where I'm going??? Well one turn I eventually made
>after the team had run for a few miles lead me back to the Railway tracks
>but no crossing so I figured I'd cut things short and go back the way I
>and not attempt to get lost :) Weaver listened to GEE every time I yelled
>it. The snow was deep in some places and the dogs could go over but when I
>put my foot down to push usually I sank so it was a leisurely ride back :)
>Made it back in one piece and figured that was enough for one day didn't
>want to push my luck :) Hung around for awhile and chatted. Lent Weaver
>a friend and then headed home when he got back. Stopped to pick up lunch
>was STARVING drove in the driveway got out and neighbour was hiding and
>threw a snowball at truck, duly startled I knew it was him. Yelled at him
>and started unloading the truck. 3 trips all done, take off my jacket, low
>and below what's still in my waistband but the set of spare keys I had used
>to pack the truck :) What does that say about my obviously VERY TIGHT
>waistband??? That it kept those keys safe and sound even after a serious
>dog dragging incident :( Maybe I should put Weaver as driver and I should
>pull the sled????

Another night without sleep, Hooligan Style

On Thu, 13 Mar 2003 08:16:47 -0500, Marilyn Hubley
>Okay so I don't sleep well to begin with, Head Injury related but I was
>pooped last night and went to bed early. The Hooligans had other ideas.
>Around 2am I hear crying in the sunroom, okay get up go out open sunroom.
>Let Weaver out of his cage and outside as he's going crazy. Kept Max in
>let Cojo & Tundra out. Back to bed. 1/2 hour later there's barking under
>my window :( WEAVER!!!!!! Screamed a few times and he stopped then he'd
>start again :( Fine after 15 minutes give up go get him. Open sunroom and
>I'm hit hard in the face from the stinkingest POO POO that Max had left by
>the door :( ewwwwww Bring Weaver & Cojo in, too dark to find said poop so
>leave it, let Max out, take off slippers in kitchen in case I stepped in
>it, . Back to bed. 5 minutes later hear smash in sunroom, WEAVER'S up
>something, too tired to check back to sleep. Maybe an hour later Hound
>starts pacing in the bedroom UGH yell at him to lay down that's just
>prolonging my agony, get up let him out play changing of the guards.
>Noticed Weaver has been up on the chair and knocked the floor lamp over and
>smashed the glass light cover. Back to bed. 15 minutes later Tasha starts
>to gag on floor beside me, you know those gas filled belly ones,
>thought of getting up and running her to the outside, naaaa the poop was
>still in the sunroom stinking, she gagged whatever up on the new rug beside
>my bed. Sounded like she was turning inside out but was only a little hair
>bundle with some bone pieces from their Marrow bones that day. Smells
>hideous, I'm not getting up again, hide under covers. 10 minutes later I
>hear barking and howling, damn I forgot and left the Hound outside :( (by
>the way I've kinda lost track of the series of events) he'll wake the
>neighbours, get up get Hound in let Pride out from cage. Back to bed.
>Finally at 1/4 to 7 I gave up on sleep and listened to the radio for a bit
>then got up. Decided to clean up this mess, walked into sunroom cleaned up
>POOP realize its still stinking bad, look around yep Pride had at some
>pooped himself in his cage, proceeded to rip up his dog bed in said cage
>had poop smeared all over inside of said cage. That one I'm blaming on the
>neighbours cause when I gave them their Marrow bones yesterday, I gave them
>the ones my neighbours gave me and they were mostly fat & gristle (HI PAUL

Diary Sledding, LONG

On Wed, 5 Mar 2003 13:40:04 -0500, Marilyn Hubley
>Phew I made it!!!!!!!! :) Of course the problems I encountered were
>of the dogs I took. Bloody freezing out there thought I was going to have
>my face freeze off, thank goodness I remembered my Ear Muffs. First
>took Tundra & Cojo (Mr. I don't want to go). Off we go to the road not bad
>for the first half of the sled but the salter/sander had been around so I
>had the runners sticking a some points but wasn't going fast enough to
>matter. Next up man snowblowing driveway, at this point Cojo felt he
>to go see him (on by means NOTHING to Cojo). So I stopped and pulled and
>dragged and wrestled the little beggars back to the road. Guy snowblowing
>had stopped by this time and said when he saw me he thought he was seeing
>things, he's laughing and calls to me to enjoy. Back on road, oh great
>someone has their YAPPY little dog out and its barking at my dogs and we've
>already discussed Cojo's lack of ON BY understanding. So there I am again,
>dragging and a pulling and a wrestling back to the road. Mr. Dense (a.k.a.
>Cojo) didn't even realized I'd pulled him by the house with the dog and he

>dragging and a pulling and a wrestling continued. By now I'm EXHAUSTED and

>Cojo prefers to run in the MIDDLE of the road or the ditch???? So next up

Today's Aborted Walk

>Hi everyone, yes Barb I'm alive :) Was going to sled this afternoon but
>still have a nasty wind that's really chilly so decided to walk a couple of
>the older dogs. Tasha & Big Red drew the straws. Of we set, I'm barely
>the path and on to the driveway and Big Red is scaling 5 foot deep snow
>banks to pee in the yard. Okay fine, ya lunatic, have at it. Only took
>half the lawn to find his spot and my goodness he barely walks well enough
>on the floor never mind 4 & 5 foot deep snow!!!!!! Finally I haul him out
>to the driveway. Okay lets go!!!!! Apparently the side of the road I
>choose ( you know facing traffic) was not acceptable and Tasha (both on
>flexi leads) made a beeline for the other side. Big Red & I followed. Now
>Big Red WANTS TO GO BACK IN THE SNOW. I had to shorten his lead cause the
>silly bugger keep walking into the deep snow and getting stuck. He
>come back to the road, road is bad, snow is better kinda look at me. So
>we are moving so quick now I've probably gotten a good 30 feet past my
>driveway in 5 minutes. Pull him back out start up hill, Big Red no likes
>hill :( Wander, wander, stop and stuff face in snow and look as god darn
>adorable as they come with snow all over his face looking at me. Tasha is
>running around wildly at the end of the flexi wondering what the heck is
>with all the hold ups. Finally we didn't even make the top of the hill and
>Big Red laid down in the snow and started eating and digging holes in it
>with his face. I waited, Tasha waited, and waited and waited. By this
>we had maybe gone a total of 100 feet, the wind was HOWLING up the hill, I

>Well I left today to go sledding with a friend up north :) What a GLORIOUS

>(borrowed same one I got last time) and we FLEW on those trails baby!!! I
>had to hold on pretty tight let me tell ya Weaver was in FLY mode and I
>the brake pretty much all the way to keep from running over the other team.
>Was getting self assured and started to look at the lovely scenery,
>look back, DUCK!!!!!!!!! Tree branch almost got me, later another one did
>skipped off the top of my head. Yep still running with no snow hook, fell
>twice, held on:) Ran into two sets of skiers WITH ankle biters. Did okay,
>minor try by a couple of dogs to eat them. Next up, I fell so hard I let
>and Liz was able to stop hers and catch mine :) After digging snow out of
>glasses (still on my face this time :) I jogged up the trail and retrieved
>said dogs then we had one heck of a time turning the teams around LOL Liz
>ran into me almost knocked me over, took forever to untangle my team then
>they'd tangled again :) On the way back Weaver had the TROTS never slowed
>him down, I was up wind and kinda nauseous. Then Cojo started with the
>trots (anyone that read this mornings email knows several have it from
>marrow bones). More wind my direction but this time I got worried cause
>seen blood in the yard this morning and Cojo was having blood coming out
>:( Finished our trip, had a lovely lunch with Liz & Peter and headed home.
>Just to be on the safe side dropped into vets to make sure Cojo wasn't
>running a fever. Was a Pom dog in front of me, cute little thing shaking,
>talked to it and the lady. It went in, next thing the doc is running out
>yelling get this dog on oxygen its blue. Apparently I then found out the

Humours a must

>I agree Bob humour is the best :) If I didn't have a great sense of humour
>quite frankly I'm sure I'd be dead.
>Picture this, I took out my brushes and sat down to brush the dogs. All
>came up to me for brushing except Tundra (she hates the brush) but she
>didn't need doing and the Giant Red Malamute that stinks like you can't
>imagine. Yes of course it was him I wanted, well I ran around brushing the
>top holding onto his collar being pull this way and that, then he fell ass
>end off the deck, then he bite me, then he WOOOOO WOOOOO'd in my face with
>two rotten teeth in him mouth. After I collect my stomach back and managed
>not to HURL, I waited for him to settled down and then proceeded to crawl
>his back while he was laying down to try to work on his underneath. Well
>was having none of that thank you very much and whipped his head back and
>now I'm sporting a bloody chin, shirt and ego :( Now I have to explain to
>the vet why eyes drops for him 4 times a day after 10 days got in maybe 4
>times :(

> Hi Amber :) I often sit and reflect on how wonderful a ruler I would
>Trying to get this house to respect me is a different story. Mom keeps

>immediately mount anything that walks on four legs to show whose boss but
>with this last one, just a Lab, I'm now sporting a big cut in the corner of
>my eye. What was that dog thinking?????? Its me PRIDE ruler of
>I'm having a hard time with this new Malamute too, I know he can't see me
>very well and I can sneak up on him but darn I'm afraid the wobbly old
>bugger will fall over one me.

Big Red's Surgery

On Fri, 6 Sep 2002 17:41:14 -0400, Marilyn Hubley
>Big Red Malamute is HOME!!!!!! His surgery was a long one as they had to
>remove 4 TEETH. 3 of which were Molars that were rotten but the root was
>still pretty firm. Poor old bugger came out and slid down their stairs but
>hopped right up into the Durango to go home. He's presently PASSED OUT on
>the lawn.
>Had my Foster Harley looked at this evening too. His TONGUE is a
>mess!!!!!!!! All infected and grey looking on the sides. She also removed
>some more of the fluid that gathers under his chin pocket which she
>suspects is from a burst Salivary Gland. :( poor boy. Will have to let
>rescue know he needs some work.

Not a good day at the Hubley Hooligans

On Mon, 16 Sep 2002 14:21:32 -0400, Marilyn Hubley
>Well today I'm to go to a Lenny Kravitz concert, of course the day wasn't
>going to go smooth. Big Red Malamute was dragging his butt on the floor
>yesterday and I hadn't thought to check it. Today I'm getting ready to
>leave to get my hair done and look and Big Red, the lump on his butt had
>grown huge and the covering was off it. Got an appointment for him in the
>afternoon. By that time the stink was horrible from we guess the anal
>glands, blood and flies were all over the poor darling. Sure enough he had
>maggots on him and had to be shaved down. I asked them to keep him
>overnight as I was going out and they agreed to do his surgery to remove
>bump and others first thing in the morning. There is a risk because of
>where it is for him to be incontinent but I have no choice. I went to take
>him downstairs to their kennel and sure enough he slid down and ripped off
>half the bump and started bleeding :( We got a collar on him and taped him
>up and they are going to check and see if they need to do stitches later or
>wait for surgery in the morning. The poor baby :( hasn't he gone through
>enough???? 4 teeth out last week and now this. I'm miserable, I don't
>even want to go out tonight my poor darling baby is upset and hurting :(

On Tue, 17 Sep 2002 15:41:08 -0400, Marilyn Hubley
>Phoned first this this morning and Big Red spent the night at the vets fine
>and was scheduled for surgery on his hind end this morning. Visited the
>clinic at 12 and he was just waking up (Snoring) in his Kennel and didn't
>even know I was there :)
>Vet said Surgery to remove the growths (3) went very very well, they were
>surface growths so she was able to remove them and sew him back up good as
>new :) Hoping this means no incontinence problems. So I'm off to get my
>Mally :) will update further later :)

>Finally the day arrived that Big Red gets professionally groomed. HE'S
>GORGEOUS!!!!!!! What a good boy he was for her no biting or grumping for
>anything other than not liking his paws touched. I stayed there with him
>and talked to him and held him so he knew he wasn't being left. 2 1/2
>and then he said okay had enough :) All his sun burnt fur is coming out
>a beautiful brown is coming in :) Finally my rescue Malamute is clean

On Tue, 17 Sep 2002 17:34:18 -0400, Marilyn Hubley
>Big Red is home!!!!!!!!! First thing he did was drink two bowls of water,
>go outside for a pee and then he had his first POOP!!!!! Everything came
>out fine except a bit runny!!!!! I have to rub Zinc Ointment on his butt
>incisions but stitches don't need to be removed and I'll have him re-
>in 7-10 days. He then walked over to the water trough, stuck his whole
>in and drank and then dug some out with his paws and drank some more while
>front feet in :) The rest of the Hooligans were allowed out to see him and
>he wagged his tail and they were very careful with him :) Lets hope this
>the end of Big Red's dark days and he leads a life of luxury from here on
